Check Ups

We took the boys in for their unofficial 2 and 4 year appointments with our Pediatrician (unofficial because they're 2.5 and over 4, where does time go?). It was quite the adventure bringing them both in for back-to-back appointments. My head finally stopped pounding this morning.

Q still has monster tonsils, but since he doesn't snore or have problems sleeping--she says we'll wait to remove them until summer vacation when he's in 3rd or 4th grade. Sounds good to us. He weighed in at 42 lbs and 41.5 inches. She called him a block--same height and weight! Funny! He is at the 75th %, which is crazy for the kid who was always at 99% and higher. He is healthy & happy & enjoyed the little tests she put him through like standing on one foot. Although he might be Picasso, because the "square" he drew was closer to a centipede or something.

Milo. First of all he was fired up. Just hellacious all day. The doctor literally said, "Wow, that one has a bit of the devil in him, huh?" After I pinched back tears and grabbed the gyno light from his hands, I regained composure and asked about effective discipline for a 2.5 year old. She reiterated the importance of redirection and time outs. (My favorite 2 ineffective words with a Terrible Two Year Old). Nothing has been working for that kid. He just misbehaves an exhausting 15 hours a day! God love him, but he is testing me big time. I just try to take deep breaths and hope it'll blow over soon. He weighed in at 31 lbs and 36.5 inches. Also measuring below the 75th %. Which is no surprise to us, he doesn't eat much these days & is skin & bones. Since he's basically bouncing off the walls with pent up energy all day--he's just a little peanut.

We did decide to pass on the H1N1 vaccine. They are both so healthy and after a long conversation, we opted out this year...hopefully we don't regret it. How about everyone else? Did you guys do it?

Have a fantastic weekend, we're about to drop the kids off at my mom's for a little anniversary fun for a few hours.

lots-n-lots-n-lots-n-lots

Lots of stuff going on these days!

Whew. I was trying to think what we've been up to since November 1st, my last post...and it's mind boggling, really.

-Cory left for a week to Albuquerque, New Mexico for some sort of Quality Engineer-a-thon training. He met a lot of new people, and came home with a "Snuggie" for us all. The boys think it's the coolest shirt they've ever seen. And although it was a free prize, it's secretly one of those things I really might have purchased myself. I'm always cold, give me a break!

-Cory came back from NM on Thursday, and I took off on Friday after work to Denver for 5 days. It was the first leg of my PhD Colloquium experience. Whew. It was utterly overwhelming and intimidating. I met people with 7 or 8 degrees, and I think I was one of the youngest people there. It was a wonderful experience, but I left feeling really nervous in the tummy about what I've really gotten myself into. I did learn one thing--I have to step it up a notch & start hitting it hard!

-I missed Q's 4th birthday when I was in Denver. But I called often, and the boys celebrated with Gramma Lori and Papoo and Max. They did lots of fun stuff like McDonald's playland and cake and presents and songs. I was sad to be gone, but seriously--his birthday was a 5 day affair. We did dinner before we left, presents when we were both home on Thursday, the fun with the Kasel's on his day, and then AGAIN when I got back on Wednesday night. Lucky kid. :o) Can you believe he's fricking four years old?!?

-I rented a Jeep Wrangler (score) and stayed with my cousins Josh & Lindsay (the newlyweds from September), and had some very long days. I got up every morning at 5 am, spent the days in conference until about 5:30 pm, came home & zoned out with my brain fried. We did get nice and Rocky Mountain Loaded on Friday night with the other cousins, and ate like kings each day. Apparently Josh "married up" and Linz can cook!! Score for all of us. They were fantastic hosts and I can't wait to go back with Cor, and not have to worry about school.

-Sister-n-law Kari & I hosted a baby shower today for my little brother Joel & his girlfriend Melissa, at my house. Had about 25 people over & it was pretty good. Of course this event meant that yesterday the boys & I spent 20 hours cleaning my house (including the carpets!) and doing about 10 loads of laundry. Cory had his last Gopher's game of the season--and I finally scored a sweet Goph's jacket. It's very nice!

-Tomorrow morning I fly out to fabulous Gary, Indiana until Tuesday night. Hold your excitement, it's a horrible town. That means another lonely night (yeah, right--Monday Night Football) for the boys, and work, work, work for me.

-I do have my first final due on Wednesday, and I'm a bit nervous. It's a 20 page paper, and I've been working on it for 10 weeks. I think it's pretty ok. Nothing earth shattering or world-moving, but it should get the job done.

-This next weekend is our wedding anniversary, and I think we've secured a baby-sitter (Gramma Lori! Woot-Woot!) so we can go play some Cosmic Bingo at Mystic Lake on Saturday. We've never done it, but it sounds fun. Hell, any night away with gambling is fun for us!

I think it's going to be a long week and then it'll lead right into Thanksgiving. Take it easy & hopefully I'll be able to post something fun in the next few days, rather than a boring bullet list of my schedule?? I can only hope!

Sickness

We had a rough spell here at our house. Cory came down with it first, a cold and then right into a nice sinus infection. Both boys got a really hot, spiked fever last week--each of them hit 104! We muscled through it, and missed a few days of school and work. It finally hit me last Tuesday as well. The worst of it has gone, but then tonight when I got home from work Milo was complaining that his ears hurt. Eyeballs just never says that or complains (not about being sick at least...he complains plenty about other stuff!!) Even when he was hot & fevery last week, nothing hurt. I knew he must have some residual icky-ness and brought him to the Clinic tonight. Double ear infection and some strong antibiotics! Hopefully this will knock the last of it out of his system, and set us good for awhile.

Q feels great, I'm great and Cory's having a nice dose of mountain air to shake the last of his sinus infection. He's out in the desert for the week for work, and loving the 70 degree weather!

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, but I cleared out my camera & posted some semi-recent pics. Enjoy!

Halloween 2009

Q getting his face painted at the preschool Halloween Party (note: I did not say it was painted "well"... I mean what is that thing? A bat? an Otter? A cat? Yikes).
Q the firefighter!
Milo showing off his cupcake at preschool. He dunked the entire jar of sprinkles right into that orange frosting. Atta boy! Anything for more sprinkles!! Milo shouldn't have to eat alone...thank goodness a stranger with bad hair came to help him. Oy.
Cory sewing our Halloween Costumes for the annual Wahlin bash. Yes, I swear he did it all himself, it was his idea this year...and he executed it 100%. Project Runway anyone??
Brand and Andy from "The Goonies". I wish we could have found better wigs, but it was pretty good given what we had to work with. God forbid I get a picture of the two monsters at once. Not so much! HOLD STILL!!
Here is a picture of the crew before they went out Trick-or-Treating. Henry as Robin, Q the firefighter, Owen as Captain America, Violet the ladybug, and Milo with Yoda ears (and that was even a struggle. Kid refused to wear a costume!)

Cookies

Gramma Duke brought the boys over cow-shaped cookies one night. They had this black frosting on them, and the boys were just absolutely disgusting afterwards. I literally had to re-scrub them the next morning too!
